From an academic patent to a commercially validated technology
The European IP Helpdesk, an initiative of the European Commission (EISMEA), has published Letavis as an official case study on strategic IP management. It highlights how we built a patent portfolio around Amoravis™, our oxytocin-based biostimulant, from an academic patent to a commercially validated technology.
Being selected is external validation of an approach we have followed since day one: intellectual property is not a legal formality for us, it is a core commercial asset that protects our science, attracts investment, and enables international growth.
Key points from the publication
- From lab to field: Letavis acquired a previously uncommercialised academic patent in 2017 and, together with the original inventor, built it into a validated, scalable agricultural technology over nearly eight years.
- Application-based IP strategy: Since oxytocin itself cannot be patented, our protection is built around specific uses, concentrations, treatment methods and crop applications – making imitation both technically and regulatorily costly.
- A growing portfolio: Letavis now holds five patent families with protection in Sweden, the EU and the US, including a recently accepted US patent, with further filings planned under the Unitary Patent system.
- IP as an investment enabler: Our patent position has repeatedly been a decisive factor in investor due diligence.
- A business model built on shared value: By capturing no more than one-third of the value we create for farmers, we reduce the incentive to imitate and strengthen long-term partnerships.
What this means going forward
This recognition reinforces our commercialisation strategy across Sweden other European markets. We will continue expanding our patent portfolio and deepen our regulatory positioning, and use our IP foundation to support new partnerships and investment as we scale.
