SPRING FEELINGS AND CULTIVATION
Spring is just around the corner
When the sun shines, the snow has melted away, and the early morning light is filled with birdsong, it’s hard not to long for spring. After far too many months of darkness and cold, we at Letavis are looking ahead to a new growing season — for potatoes, carrots, and radishes, which we believe are among the finest treasures this long country has to offer.
Spring is a season of renewal and light, but it can also bring unpredictable weather and wild swings in temperature. That’s why we’d like to share a few tips for the upcoming growing season — small tricks that can make a big difference when it’s time to get the potatoes into the soil and take those first steps into the new season.
1. Keep an eye on soil temperature
It’s tempting to get started as soon as the sun comes out, but the soil needs to be ready. For potato growers, a soil temperature of at least 8°C is a good rule of thumb before planting begins. Soil that’s too cold can stress the plants and negatively affect establishment.
2. Prepare for uneven rainfall and dry spells
Spring weather rarely follows a perfect pattern. It’s either pouring rain or bone dry. Take time to review drainage systems, irrigation options, and consider whether any fallow fields could use some extra attention before planting begins.
3. Give your seed potatoes a strong start
Healthy, high-quality seed is the foundation of a successful harvest. Consider treating your seed potatoes with Amoravis™ – our treatment that strengthens the crop from day one, making it more resilient through effective root development and growth.
4. Think long-term
Spring isn’t just about getting started — it sets the tone for the entire season. A well-planned spring, with attention to soil health, crop establishment, and good crop rotation, helps create better conditions for a more even and sustainable harvest.
At Letavis, we look forward to following you through this year’s growing season — from the first signs of spring to the autumn harvest. Together, we can build stronger, healthier, and more sustainable farming for the future.
